About Sicily on web

rosalba-mancuso

Dear Sicily lover, welcome to Sicilyonweb, the Sicilian blog to visit and know true Sicily and its best places and products.
I am the founder, Rosalba Mancuso, an independent journalist made in Sicily!
Yes, I am Sicilian.
I guess you believe to know everything about my birthland, but I want to help you know more. I want to inspire you a deep desire to spend your summer holidays in fabulous Sicilian destinations.
Inspiration never comes from those who don’t live in the places they describe.
I was born and lived in the wonderful Noto Valley, the most baroque area of my island. Furthermore, I love traveling to the most interesting places of Sicily. What I described is what I have seen through my eyes during my life.

I hope that as soon as you finished reading my stories about the best products and places to visit in Sicily, you’ll feel the intense desire to visit them and to use products made in Sicily.

Why I founded this blog

Sicily struggled with many problems along its history. The most important are Mafia, unemployment and emigration. I founded my travel blog about Sicily, rather, to promote my land in the world,  because I want to prove that Sicily is different. It is not only the town of the Godfather, but an endless container of culture, nature and beauty. The ugliness about Sicily is only a small part of the island, the most of people are honest, warming and creative.  However,  the media hide this wonderful side of Sicily. I am here to invite you to discover this side.
Sicily is, above all, stunning beaches, high mountains, unspoiled landscapes, shining sun, bright sea, fresh air, wonderful hills, good healthy food and delicious recipes. I know all this, because I live here and often visit the best Sicilian places and eat the best Sicilian dishes.

Who am I, really?

I am a very creative Sicilian.
My story is the one of a Sicilian girl who never gave up their dreams because of the misleading opinions about Sicily. I am not a rich person, my father was a barber and my mother a housewife. I couldn’t afford to study English abroad, but my dream was to work as a journalist. When the two prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino were killed by the Mafia,  I was 21 years old. I suffered a lot for this crime and I wanted to write good information to prevent the bad economic conseguences of the mafia system.   I tried to work as a journalist and in 1996 I managed to write for the most important Sicilian daily newspaper: Giornale di Sicilia. Later,  I  managed to write for The Quotidiano di Sicilia and the main online Italian journal Affari Italiani. One of my pieces against Mafia was also published in the website dedicated to prosecutor Rosario Livatino, always killed by Mafia. Unfortunately,  In Italy, publishers don’t pay much for journalists. Meritocracy lacks in Italy and Sicily.  You can be well paid only if you are rich or your parents are wealthy.  I didn’t belong to this class! I was poor. However, I continued writing my pieces in Italian, but , after a handful of years, due to the Economic crisis, the fees paid  for journalists  have dropped  too much and so I decided to practice English writing. I started my first two blogs in English, my travel blog about Sicily and a literary blog: www.advicesbooks.com.
I founded these blogs because in my life I love two things: Sicily and Books and because I followed the tips of of my two favourite Sicilian prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino,  who invited Sicilian people to believe in themlselves,  to go forward without bend their head.  I never bend my head,  even though I had to change my language to continue doing my writing job.

Over the years, I have also opened two other websites in English: my professional website https://freelanceitalianwriter.com , which summarizes all of my long writing experience, and my health magazine, https://modernhealthinfo.com, which shows my experience as a medical journalist.

As you can see, Sicily is not only economic crisis or unemployment, or mafia,  but a great land of very courageous men and women who can go forward without doubts or fear!

This is the main reason to visit Sicily, but there are many other ones.
That is why you must visit Sicily.
This Italian island can give you health and wellness thanks to its healthy cuisine.
The best Sicilian products are organic and rich in antioxidants.
Many Sicilian accommodations prepare only organic recipes for tourists.
Many best Sicilian places are still untouched and allow you to do real eco-tours.
My brother in law, indeed, is a taxi driver and can organize private tours.
Furthermore, since I am a bilingual web writer, I can find accommodations for you where owners speak English, also.
Often, even though hotels and accommodations have multilingual websites, they speak only Italian and turn your vacation into a nightmare.
I can help you to do a relaxing vacation, to learn also a bit of Italian with people who know English, also.
On the website, you’ll also find complete information about the most known and unknown Sicilian places. These are areas rich in history and monuments and marvelous landscapes. Sicily is also famous for its countryside, where nature, plants, woods and lush green can enchant your gaze forever. Browsing my travel blog about Sicily, you’ll find also useful information to better know this Italian island, its food, recipes, typical products and products made in Sicily. But not only, currently I am also helping foreign people to find and buy cheap properties for retirement or vacation in Sicily.
